Changing lives in Rochdale

We provide apprenticeships, traineeships and adult education programmes across Merseyside and we are also delivering Project 5 in Rochdale in partnership with homelessness charity, Petrus Community. Project 5 is an innovative programme that aims to break the cycle of homelessness by supporting participants to discover their potential, build confidence and learn digital skills, preparing them for employment, further education or training.

Launched in 2021, Project 5 has worked with six participants who have experienced homelessness, discrimination, inequality or negative social stigma.

The first participants of Project 5 have recently finished the programme and have celebrated their success at a graduation ceremony.

Joanne Abraham, Managing Director of The Learning Foundry, said: “We deliver incredible programmes at The Learning Foundry, working with partners like the BBC, Liverpool FC and Future Yard. And we’re delighted to deliver Project 5 in Rochdale in partnership with Petrus Community. Project 5 allows participants to work at their own pace to identify their direction, choice, future, way and journey and it’s been a privilege to see the impact Project 5 has had. Participants are moving on to further training or education or employment and this graduation ceremony will be a real celebration of their successes.”

Participants are service users of Rochdale-based homelessness charity, Petrus Community.

Head of Petrus, Sonia Denham, said: “Petrus has been supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness for 50 years. We do this though day to day and residential support and through innovative programmes like Project 5. Our first participants are rightly proud of everything they have achieved and it was wonderful to celebrate their successes at a graduation ceremony.”

Project 5 recently welcomed its second cohort, with 6 Petrus service users undertaking the programme to develop employability skills.

Joanne said: “We recently started our second Project 5 programme and I am so excited to see the amazing things participants will achieve.”
