What is an apprenticeship and who can apply?

An apprenticeship is a real job where you learn, gain experience and get paid. Open to anyone over the age of 16, you’ll earn a wage and be given the appropriate training designed to make you a success in your chosen field.

A big question we always get asked is ‘I have a degree; can I still do an apprenticeship?’  The simple answer is, YES!

It’s common for people to go to university and feel either they chose the wrong course, didn’t gain enough experience to get a job or need a little help in finding what to do next.  It doesn’t matter if you’ve had a previous job or qualification, you can still apply for an apprenticeship. The same applies to anyone who’s been working in a job they don’t like and want to try something new.

For whatever reason, we welcome everyone to come to talk to us at The Learning Foundry, and we’ll make sure we find the right help and support for you.

Why choose an apprenticeship?

Whether you have just finished school, college, or university, looking for something new or you need some help in making those first steps to launch your career, an apprenticeship could be perfect for you.

  • Earn while you learn – You’ll be paid a real wage while you’re trained and be given assistance on how to budget correctly.
  • Be trained in the skills employers want – Through the work experience and practical learning, you’ll be set up for exciting future job opportunities.
  • Lead to Industry recognised qualifications – Not only will your hard work be credited through careers prospects and pay, but qualifications that’ll improve your professional development.
  • Progress quickly – Work in the real world in fast-paced industries where you’ll pick up things quicker than if you were just taught in only a classroom.
  • Support the entire way from expert tutors – From industry training to advise, your tutors will always ensure everything goes as well as possible and give you any extra motivation to ensure you reach your goals.
  • Careers advice and guidance – know exactly where you can take your new skills and qualifications with help to plan out what’s next for you.

Apprenticeships provide a fantastic platform to set you up for the future and it's no secret that those who complete apprenticeship training, progress at an incredibly fast pace.

Why do businesses take on apprentices anyway?

It’s no secret that employing apprentices is positive for business.

In fact, 96% of employers that take on an apprentice report benefits. Apprentices can bring in new ideas that can help speak to younger generations, as well as providing fresh energy to ensure companies kept their competitive edge.

We work with several great organisations and businesses that share our belief on the importance of the continued upskilling of young people. Through this we can provide apprenticeships with companies that will aim to make your time with them as rewarding and enriching as possible, so when your time comes up you will be a great asset to the continued development of the Liverpool City Region.

At lot of companies, especially local businesses, often like to employ people for the long term, and by taking on apprenticeships they are able to train them in the company procedures, and policies so by the end of the apprenticeship programme, they’ll be confident that in gaining a newly qualified member of staff, fully equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to make an instant impact.

What do our apprentices think?

We have had many learners who have progressed from apprenticeships onto great roles with local businesses. We always want to hear what they thought of their time with us, and while we’re like to know if there is any way we can improve, it’s great to hear every success story. This is what some of our past apprentices have had to say about the program.
