“I’m learning more than I ever did in college” – Tegan’s story

We caught up with one of our customer service apprentices, Tegan, for a catch up on her progress with only 6 months of her apprenticeship left to go. She’s thriving in her role as Administration Assistant with Positive Footprints, and we’re thrilled to be able to share her progress.

Here’s what she had to say:

Over the past year I have learnt something new every single day. I started my apprenticeship in customer service in April last year and it’s been an amazing experience.

Yes, it has been a challenge...for example learning to work independently, but it has always been amazing.

Before beginning my apprenticeship with The Learning Foundry, I worked with DFN Project Search who support adults like me with learning disabilities get into employment. I worked with them for two years to develop my employability skills during which time I started a 12-week work placement with Positive Footprints.

Before the 12 weeks had ended, I was offered a permanent job. I kept it a secret from my team until the very end and they were really happy with the surprise.

It was Positive Footprints who encouraged me to progress my career by enrolling in an apprenticeship with The Learning Foundry, and I’m really glad they did. My apprenticeship has helped me to build confidence in a professional environment, and as a person, too! With this boosted confidence, I have been able to develop good working relationships with my colleagues and make genuine friendships as well.

With the help of The Learning Foundry, my apprenticeship is helping me progress in my role. I’m boosting my skills in administration and IT and I’m becoming really good at making sure everything in the office runs smoothly!

I am learning more today than I ever did in college. In college I felt like I never learnt anything new, but today I am learning something different every day.

I love my role! It’s great to be learning and still feel like I am part of a strong team. My colleagues say that I am very creative, honest and organised – and even good at working on my own.

In the future, I know that I will be successful, living an independent life. I’d be willing to do more training with The Learning Foundry to help me reach the next steps in my career.

I want to say thank you to my team, even though I say ‘thank you’ to them every day. I am so grateful for the support they have given me to develop my skills throughout my apprenticeship.

We’re so proud of your progress, Tegan, and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you!
